Echostream is an evolving community of professional designers, dreamers and doers from Sikkim. During my intership at Echostream I worked on the ‘ChubaKo’ project. Chuba is a village in South Sikkim, and Chuba Ko in nepali means from Chuba therefore, a product that came from Chuba. Chuba ko, Sikkim's first wool based handloom cluster is a women-majority project aimed at engaging, empowering, and enabling women of Chuba. Recipients of the knowledge of the indigenous wool-making process, the weavers engage in a practice that has been passed down for generations.
During my internship at Echostream, I worked with Chuba Ko, Sikkim's first wool-based handloom cluster it is a women-majority project aimed at engaging, empowering, and enabling women of Chuba. My work included branding, packaging, and exhibition design. This internship played a major role in my design thinking or looking at design and each and every step. It was a great opportunity to build a brand for the artisans themselves and I learned to understand and connect with the brief and associated subjects on a deeper level and make each move keeping the practicality in mind.
Chuba ko weavers particularly the weavers from the Gurung community have been making their own handmade products which is an important part of their rich cultural heritage and identity. My work included branding, packaging and exhibition design. This internship played a major role in my design thinking or looking at design and each and every step. It was a great opportunity to build a brand for the artisans themselves and I learned to understand and connect with the brief and associated subjects on a deeper level and make each move keeping the practicality in mind.
